Best Dive Sites Near Amed, Bali

6 min read2026-03-05

Amed is a collection of small fishing villages along Bali's northeast coast, offering some of the island's most pristine and uncrowded diving. The area stretches about 14 kilometers from Amed village to Aas, with dive sites scattered along the coastline.

Jemeluk Bay is the star of Amed diving. A gentle coral slope extends from the beach into deep water, covered in hard and soft corals that support a rich ecosystem. Sea turtles are almost guaranteed here, along with reef sharks, barracuda schools, and an incredible variety of reef fish. The bay is calm and protected, making it ideal for all levels.

The Japanese Wreck at Lipah Bay is a small cargo ship from World War II resting at 3-12 meters depth. It is completely covered in coral and is home to schools of glassfish, lionfish, and nudibranchs. The shallow depth makes it accessible to snorkelers and Open Water divers alike.

For macro enthusiasts, Amed's black sand slopes are hunting grounds for rare critters: frogfish, ghost pipefish, ribbon eels, blue-ring octopus, and flamboyant cuttlefish. Night diving in Amed reveals Spanish dancers, bobtail squid, and bioluminescent plankton.

Wall diving at Amed is found along the steeper sections of coast, where the reef drops into deeper water. These walls are covered in sea fans, barrel sponges, and soft corals, with pelagic visitors in the blue water including eagle rays and trevally.

Amed is best as a multi-day trip where you stay in one of the beachside guesthouses and dive morning and afternoon. The village atmosphere is peaceful, the food is fresh (grilled fish on the beach every evening), and the diving is consistently excellent.
