Night diving transforms familiar dive sites into alien landscapes. With a powerful torch in hand, you explore a world of hunters, sleepers, and creatures that only emerge after dark.
What you will see at night: octopus actively hunting (watching an octopus change color and shape while stalking prey is mesmerizing), sleeping parrotfish encased in mucus cocoons, Spanish dancer nudibranchs swimming in the water column, cuttlefish displaying hypnotic color patterns, mantis shrimp out of their burrows, and bioluminescent plankton that glow when disturbed.
Best night dive sites in Bali: Tulamben (the Liberty wreck is spectacular at night with hunting fish and sleeping turtles), Amed (black sand comes alive with nocturnal critters), Padang Bai The Jetty (seahorses and hunting octopus), Seraya/Tulamben slope (Spanish dancers and nudibranchs).
Night diving logistics: we provide powerful dive torches and backup lights. The dive starts at dusk (around 6pm) and lasts 45-60 minutes. Entry and exit points are marked with shore lights. You stay with your buddy and guide at all times.
Bioluminescence is a highlight of night diving in Bali. When you turn off your torch and wave your hand through the water, millions of tiny dinoflagellate plankton light up in electric blue. It is like swimming through a galaxy.
Requirements: PADI Open Water certification minimum. Previous night dive experience is helpful but not required -- we brief you thoroughly on techniques, communication, and safety protocols specific to night diving.
