Menjangan Island: Bali's Best Wall Diving

6 min read2026-02-28

Menjangan Island is an uninhabited gem off Bali's northwestern coast, within the protected boundaries of West Bali National Park. The combination of marine park protection and remote location has preserved reefs in near-pristine condition.

The island's signature feature is its wall dives. Sheer underwater cliffs drop 40+ meters, covered in spectacular soft corals, sea fans, barrel sponges, and gorgonians. The walls start at just 5 meters, so even snorkelers can appreciate the reef's beauty from above.

Visibility at Menjangan regularly exceeds 30 meters, sometimes reaching 40+. The water is a deep, clear blue that makes for stunning photography. The walls face different directions, so there is always a protected side regardless of conditions.

Marine life includes hawksbill and green sea turtles, banded sea snakes, Napoleon wrasse, schools of moorish idols and butterflyfish, garden eels on the sandy slopes, and occasional reef sharks. The diversity of hard corals is among the best in Bali.

The drive from south Bali is 3-3.5 hours, making this best as a multi-day trip combined with Pemuteran diving. We organize 2-3 day packages that include Menjangan, Pemuteran reefs, and Secret Bay macro diving.

For the dedicated diver who wants to see Bali's most pristine reefs, Menjangan is unmissable. The journey is long but the reward is diving that rivals some of the best wall sites in the Coral Triangle.
