Secret Bay (Gilimanuk Bay) is a shallow muck diving site near the ferry port of Gilimanuk in northwest Bali. This unassuming site in murky-looking water is actually one of the richest critter habitats in the Coral Triangle.
The site is famous for its incredible macro life. Regular sightings include multiple species of seahorses (including the tiny pygmy seahorse), frogfish in various colors, robust and ornate ghost pipefish, flamboyant cuttlefish, blue-ring octopus, Ambon scorpionfish, and hairy frogfish.
The dive is conducted at shallow depths (3-9 meters) in calm, protected waters, making it accessible to all certification levels. Visibility is typically 5-10 meters, but macro photographers with good spotting guides do not need more.
Secret Bay is best combined with Menjangan Island diving for a multi-day trip to northwest Bali. The contrast between Menjangan's crystal-clear wall dives and Secret Bay's muck diving makes for a diverse and unforgettable dive experience.
We organize 2-3 day packages from Canggu that include Menjangan, Pemuteran reef dives, and Secret Bay. The macro photography opportunities here are unmatched in Bali.
