Bali is a fantastic destination for family diving and snorkeling. With proper planning and the right programs, children as young as 8 can experience the underwater world safely.
PADI age requirements: Bubblemaker (pool experience) from age 8, Discover Scuba Diving from age 10, PADI Open Water certification from age 10 (Junior certification until age 15). Snorkeling has no age limit.
Best family snorkeling sites: Amed Jemeluk Bay (calm, shallow, turtles), Padang Bai Blue Lagoon (crystal clear, protected), Tulamben shallow wreck (5m depth, lots to see), Sanur reef (calm waters, close to shore).
For children aged 8-10: the PADI Bubblemaker program is a supervised pool experience where kids try breathing from scuba equipment in shallow water. It is fun, safe, and sparks their interest in diving.
For children 10+: Discover Scuba Diving provides a real ocean dive with an instructor in direct contact at all times. Maximum depth is 6 meters for ages 10-11. This is often a life-changing experience for kids.
Safety considerations: children have lower attention spans and get cold faster. We use appropriately sized equipment, keep sessions shorter, and pair kids with our most patient instructors. Parents can dive or snorkel alongside.
Family packages: we offer special family rates when booking 2+ participants. Ask us about custom family dive/snorkel days that cater to different ages and experience levels.
