Night Diving in Bali

When the sun sets, a completely different ocean comes alive. Our night dive takes you into the underwater darkness with powerful dive torches to discover nocturnal marine life you will never see during the day. Watch octopus hunting, sleeping parrotfish in their mucus cocoons, Spanish dancers, cuttlefish displaying their mesmerizing color changes, and if you are lucky, the magical glow of bioluminescent plankton. Night diving is an unforgettable experience that transforms familiar dive sites into alien landscapes.

Our Bali night dives take place at carefully selected sites where nocturnal activity is predictable and conditions are safe. We do a daytime briefing covering night diving procedures, torch signals, and what to look for underwater. When we enter the water after dark, everything changes. The torchlight picks out creatures you would never notice in the daytime, and familiar sites take on a completely alien character.

Night diving is also a key elective for the PADI Advanced Open Water course. If you are completing your Advanced certification with us, the night dive is one of our most popular elective choices and one that students consistently rate as the highlight of their course.

What You'll See

Octopus

Hunt actively at night, changing color and shape. Fascinating to observe.

Spanish Dancer

One of the ocean's most spectacular nudibranchs, often seen swimming at night.

Sleeping Parrotfish

Rest in mucus cocoons on the coral. Completely passive at night.

Reviews

The night dive was a bucket list experience. Saw an octopus hunting, a sleeping turtle, and bioluminescent plankton. The dive guide was excellent at spotting creatures in the dark.

Night Dive

Did my PADI Open Water here and it was hands down the best decision of my Bali trip. Instructors are patient, knowledgeable, and made me feel safe the entire time. The Tulamben wreck dive on day 3 was unreal.

PADI Open Water

The Nusa Penida manta trip was absolutely incredible. Saw 4 mantas on the first dive and the Crystal Bay dive was equally stunning. Small group, great guide, perfect day.

Night Dive FAQs

Is night diving safe?

Yes, when done with an experienced guide. We use powerful torches, maintain close group proximity, and brief all divers on signals and procedures. Night diving is a certified PADI activity included in the Advanced course.

What time does the night dive start?

We pick up from your hotel around 17:30-18:00 and enter the water at 18:30-19:00 when fully dark. The dive is 45-60 minutes and you are home by 21:00-21:30.

Will I see bioluminescence?

Bioluminescence (glowing plankton) is a magical natural phenomenon that occurs on certain nights. It cannot be guaranteed, but we will always try to show you by turning off torches briefly in the right conditions. It is one of the most memorable underwater experiences.

Is night diving more dangerous than day diving?

Night diving with a certified guide is a safe activity. The additional briefing and close-group procedure means it is actually well-controlled. The main adjustment is navigating by torchlight and staying oriented with your guide.
