USS Liberty Wreck Dive
Explore the famous USAT Liberty shipwreck in Tulamben. One of the world's best wreck dives, accessible from shore.
About the USS Liberty Wreck Dive
The USAT Liberty is a World War II cargo ship torpedoed in 1942 and now resting just 30 meters from shore in Tulamben, northeast Bali. This 120-meter wreck sits at depths of 5 to 30 meters, making it accessible to all certification levels. The wreck is covered in spectacular coral growth and home to an incredible diversity of marine life -- from pygmy seahorses and nudibranchs to giant barracuda and bumphead parrotfish. The morning dive offers the best visibility and lighting for photography.
Our Tulamben wreck trips depart Canggu early -- typically around 5:30-6:00 AM. The 2.5-hour drive through the slopes of Mount Agung is part of the experience, passing through villages and landscapes untouched by tourism. We stop for breakfast at a local warung en route. Arrival at Tulamben puts us in the water for the morning when conditions are best and the quality of light for photography is exceptional.
We typically dive the wreck twice, approaching it from different angles and depths on each dive. This lets you explore both the shallow coral-encrusted sections near the bow and the deeper stern at 28-30 meters (for Advanced certified divers). Between dives, we have a surface interval with lunch at a local restaurant overlooking the water.

“The Nusa Penida manta trip was absolutely incredible. Saw 4 mantas on the first dive and the Crystal Bay dive was equally stunning. Small group, great guide, perfect day.”
